Keep Your Resolution in 2019

keep your resolutionsEach year, the most common New Year’s Resolutions are to lose weight or get fit. Unfortunately, by the end of January, many people have already given up on their resolutions. They return to old habits and cancel that gym membership.

This year, you can keep that resolution by following this advice:

Set Monthly Goals

Resolutions that are a year long are too hard to follow. A year is a long time; it’s easy to put off trying to lose weight and then never end up trying at all.

This year, set monthly goals. For instance, if you want to lose 35 pounds in 2019, then set a goal of losing three pounds per month. This goal is easier to focus on and can be achieved with small, sustainable changes instead of strict diets.

Be Self Compassionate

A year is a long time. You are going to make mistakes and slip up. After all, it’s hard to skip birthday cake–especially if it’s your birthday!

When you do eat a fattening food or skip a trip to the gym, don’t beat yourself up. It happens. As long as you don’t make it a habit, these things won’t hurt your progress.

When you do make it to the gym or skip the dessert table at a party, always congratulate yourself. Celebrating even small victories can help you keep up good habits.

Focus on Benefits

Remind yourself every day why you are making this commitment to get healthier. Being skinny is often not a great motivator, but you may have other motivations like being able to chase your kids. As you progress, you may also notice small benefits you didn’t expect like being able to carry all the groceries in one go or climbing the stairs without getting out of breath. You may also sleep better and find yourself in a better mood.

Keep all these benefits in mind on your fitness journey to stay motivated and feel good about what you’ve accomplished so far.

Find Support

Many people buddy up on resolutions with a friend, partner or spouse. While this can work, often it means that if the other person stops going to the gym, you do, too.

Instead, try seeking out professional support. At Bon Secours In Motion Sports Performance, we’re offering 10 visits with our Adult Weight Loss Program for just $100. These hourlong visits include time with a certified fitness instructor. For $200 per month, you can also receive monthly massages, nutrition counseling, and unlimited visits. You can receive special pricing for partner or group discounts.

This program is not like making yourself go to the gym. It’s an appointment with support designed just for you. With scheduled times, you are less likely to skip dedicated exercise time and with personalized plans, you are more likely to see effective results.
