Resolve To Stick To Your Fitness Goals

2018 Fitness goalsNew Year means a new start, right? However, New Year’s resolutions often end up being dropped by February. Only 8% of people stick to their resolutions and actually reach their desired goals.

Some of the top resolutions people make are to stay fit and healthy or to lose weight, but with these types of resolutions, people tend to set the goal too high, which causes them to quit. Here are a few tips to help you stay on track with your New Year’s resolution.

Set a S.M.A.R.T. Goal

This means a specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and timely goal. A SMART goal is going to keep you on track with your resolution. Just saying “I want to get healthy” is too broad. How are you going to be healthier? By setting a specific goal, like “meal prepping during the week” or “losing 15 pounds in two months” limits any room for error and not committing.

Bring a buddy

Sometimes it can be rather difficult to get motivated and to stay motivated when trying to be healthier for the New Year. Someone taking that journey with you can help to keep you motivated and your friend motivated as well. This will help to increase both of your chances of success.

Have fun!

You’re more likely to quit something you don’t enjoy, so why not make the most out of it? Having fun will help keep you wanting to exercise. Find a class that you enjoy doing like Zumba, yoga, or a class that offers a mixture of different exercises. If you enjoy working out and are actually having fun while you’re doing it, then you’re more likely to stick with it.

Be patient

It’s important to know that results aren’t going to happen right away. It takes time and, while it can be frustrating, it’s important to stay on track towards reaching your goal. Don’t quit just because you aren’t seeing immediate results. Be patient and keep working hard.

Start off the New Year knowing that your resolution is obtainable. Staying motivated is a big key to keeping your resolution. Get past that February breaking point by setting a SMART goal, bringing a buddy, having fun and being patient.
